Healthy Village Senior Group

This program provides a crucial means of conveying mental health and other health related concerns, social and educational support to Iu Mien community members between the ages of early 40s to late 80s. It allows participants to share stories, current events, community resources, as well as learn from resource providers. The group often has guest speakers from local community providers that educate about healthy living, including: management of chronic disease, nutrition, food safety, mental health, and physical health. Individuals also have an opportunity to participate in a light exercise at the end of the Wednesday program. The senior group hosts the annual Senior Lunar New Year Celebration in the winter, picnic at the park in the summer, and various holidays.

During COVID, the in person gatherings was halted. We were able to transition to monthly distribution of healthy, protein-rich food to all our participants; case management with weekly check-in calls to support our members’ mental/social health, provide updated COVID-19 information, distribute information about available resources, and continue to advise about physical and mental health, including chronic diseases and nutrition. We are in the process of finding ways to safely welcome back our seniors to biweekly in-person gatherings. Please check back for updates.
